Travis Laws
Travis Laws is a professional drummer from the Dayton, OH area who has been playing drums since he was 2 years old. It all began when his father, Alan, noticed him in the back seat of his car with his arms crossed as if to be playing the drums to music on the radio. From that point on, Travis was banging on pots and pans, church hymnals and anything else he could get his hands on. At the age of 5, he received his first real set of drums. By age 7, he was playing in his local church. He also played for his fathers’ southern gospel group “Firstborn” from this time until he was 13. Travis, being self-taught, hit a creative “wall” at age 15 and began taking lessons from the great Dayton, OH drummer Craig Carroll. He taught Travis how to read drum transcription and made him understand “why” he played what he played. Around the same time, Travis was taken under the wing of his uncle and nationally recognized guitar player Randy Miller. Randy hired Travis for his first recording session and in Travis’s words “turned me into a musician”. It was at this point in Travis’s life when he knew in his heart that with hard work, determination, and God’s favor, he would achieve his dream of becoming a professional musician. Since that time, Travis has had the honor of working with many regional and national acts including Jared Mahone, Shawn McDonald, James Wesley and Sammy Arriaga. He has also played on many albums and recording sessions. Currently, Travis is touring with Grammy and Dove award-winning Christian artist Francesca Battistelli. He is also always doing studio work for many local and national artists and producers. It is Travis’s goal to not only be the best drummer that he can be, but to also be a positive role model and example to every person he meets. “Making music for me has never been about being famous or becoming rich. I just want to make an impact on the lives of the people I come in contact with. Music will come and go. The impact you leave on someone’s life will stay forever”.
